The School of Nursing welcomed over 1,800 students in September, 2007 to its broad range of educational programs. With a 3.5% increase over 2006 in undergraduate enrolment, bringing the total to 1,700 across three sites, McMaster has the highest number of BScN students in its history.
In the 4-year Basic Stream, there are 485 students at McMaster, 589 students at Mohawk College and 420 students at Conestoga College for a total of 1,494. With the addition this year of the RPN-BScN option at the College sites, enrolment in that Stream has grown to 106. The new Accelerated Stream introduced at McMaster this year, an option for students with prior university credit that can be completed in 5 terms, accounts for a further 26. Finally, at the McMaster Site, there are 74 students in the Post RN Stream, and 31 students in the Ontario Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program.
In the Graduate Program, the School has a total of 94 students with 40 Master of Science (MSc) in Nursing, 7 Master of Nursing/Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (MN/NP), 42 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing, and 5 in the Advanced Neonatal Nursing (ANN) Graduate Diploma Program.
We look forward to continuing the journey of life-long learning with these students who bring such intelligence, energy and creativity to the School, and who hold such promise for the future of nursing and health.
