Mohawk Site Awards

The table below provides a brief overview of the awards available to Mohawk Site nursing students. Some awards require applications, some require nominations and other awards are based on academic achievement. The process to nominate / apply for the award is listed under the award description and where appropriate a link is provided. While a call for nominations will occur at the end of each term, faculty and students are able to nominate students at any time during the academic year. The awards have been grouped by level of student, but please refer to the award description.

2015-2016 Mohawk BScN Awards Value Award Description
Recognition Awards Certificate Recognition awards have replaced the traditional book awards and are used to recognize students in any level for outstanding contributions within the BScN program that may not fit into the established nursing awards.

Doris Rumball Scholarship L1 $500 Demonstrates exceptional achievements.  Demonstrates consistent growth and proficiency in clinical experience.

Doris Rumball Scholarship L2 $500 Demonstrates exceptional achievements.  Demonstrates consistent growth and proficiency in clinical experience.

Level 2 or 3 Basic BScN
Martha Dawn Murray Prize $500 Awarded to a student who has demonstrated consistent exemplary care for patients and their families and has shown the ability to nurse with compassion, empathy and understanding. Consideration will be given to those who have demonstrated exceptional achievements.

Level 3 Basic BScN
Krista Lynn Cantwell Memorial Scholarship $500 This award is given to a student who has shown academic diligence, a passion for nursing and who has been an active volunteer. (PBL or clinical) GPA >8.0

Cathy Flis Memorial Scholarship $500 Awarded to a Level III BScN students who excels at caring and compassion in the clinical setting; demonstrates exceptional achievements and has a proven high academic standing. GPA > 8.0

Valeria Neely Scholarship $300

This scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in the clinical area of psychiatry

Doris Rumball Scholarship L3 $500

Demonstrates exceptional achievements.  Demonstrates consistent growth and proficiency in clinical experience.

Gladys Irene Daniels Memorial Scholarship $100 Awarded to Basic Stream Level 3 student demonstrating most compassionate care to patients during nursing experiences. Demonstrates exceptional achievement (clinical practice).

Brenda and Susan Turvey Scholarship $500 Good academic standing in clinical practice; demonstrates compassion and high regard for individual dignity; and demonstrates exceptional achievements. GPA > 8.0

Level 4 Basic BScN None for the 2015/16 academic year
All levels Basic BScN and RPN - BScN
Wilda Pinkney Scholarship $500 (x2) Awarded to (2) students who have demonstrated consistent growth and proficiency in the BScN program, and have an above-average level of clinical practice and academic performance. The recipients must have demonstrated excellent performance in theory and practical experience, as well as exceptional achievements. GPA > 8.0

Elizabeth Maus Scholarship $500 (x2) Awarded to (2) students who have demonstrated excellence in both theory and nursing practice. The recipients must also have demonstrated exceptional achievements. GPA > 8.0

Silvia Hillyard Scholarship $100

Consistent good grades; sincerity, interest and caring when interacting with clients. Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge in the clinical/community setting (clinical) GPA > 8.0

Eleanor Morris Academic Grant $800 Awarded to a student who has completed Level I with a high sessional average & demonstrates financial need.

Niemeier Scholarship $1,100 Awarded to a student who has completed Level I and has the highest sessional average and has 31 -55 units.
(No nomination required)
Clarence L. Starr Prize $150 Awarded to a student who has completed Nursing I and attains the highest sessional average.

McCusker Nursing Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to a student who has completed at least Level 1 and who has demonstrated academic excellence. (No nomination required)
Level 2
Clara I. Elman Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to the patient / nurse relationship.

Medical-Surgical Excellence in Clinical Nursing Award $250 Awarded to a student completing level  II – who  demonstrates academic excellence in medical-surgical nursing.

Lillian And Manuel Zack Scholarship $1,800 Awarded to a student who has Completed Level I & 70 – 80 units in Nursing Program & is committed to Gerontological Nursing.

Clara I. Elman Travel Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to students registered in Level III & who will be completing a Level IV Clinical Course in a Canadian outpost placement. (Application details will be posted on AvenuetoLearn Communication Hub in late January. Completed application package is due on Feb 25, 2017 to the BScN office).
Grace Senra-Fontes Memorial Prize $250 Awarded to a student in Level III or IV who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and leadership. Preference given to Level IV students. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March)
Janet McKnight Award $600 Awarded to a student entering level IV who has demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in clinical and educational aspects of gerontology or PBL or SDL in nursing education.

McMaster Nursing Alumni Memorial Prize $300 Awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership while participating  in undergraduate activities. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March)
Pioneer Group Inc. Prizes In Nursing $250 Awarded to graduating students who achieved notable standings & demonstrated practical aptitude for the elderly (2 awards).

Lynne Beaumont Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to a student entering their final year of study who demonstrates notable academic achievement, qualities of leadership and cross-cultural competence and will be completing a level IV clinical course in an international or outpost placement. Post RN / PRN
Donald Lavigne Memorial Scholarship $800 Awarded to students in their first year of study who have demonstrated academic excellence in a Post RN or Post RPN program.

Elizabeth Petra Cooke Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to a student in a Post RN or Post RPN program who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the nursing profession or to mentoring nurses as they further their education.

Corelene Helen Tostevin Scholarship $250 Five awards to be granted to students who are registered in a Post-RN program and who have demonstrated notable academic achievement.
