Conestoga Site Awards

The table below provides a brief overview of the awards available to Conestoga Site nursing students. Some awards require applications, some require nominations and other awards are based on academic achievement. The process to nominate / apply for the award is listed under the award description and where appropriate a link is provided. While a call for nominations will occur at the end of each term, faculty and students are able to nominate students at any time during the academic year. The awards have been grouped by level of student, but please refer to the award description.

Recognition Awards Certificate Recognition awards have replaced the traditional book awards and are used to recognize students in any level for outstanding contributions within the BScN program that may not fit into the established nursing awards.

The Ross and Doris Dixon Charitable Foundation created these awards to recognize BScN students who are committed to community services. Award to be applied to tuition fees.

Levels 1 & 2
Ardelle Darling Memorial Award $250 Awarded to a second year student who demonstrates caring and compassion to patients and peers, communicates effectively and demonstrates an enthusiasm for the profession of nursing.

Lillian Brown Nursing Award for Academic/Clinical Achievement $800 Awarded to a second year student who demonstrated initiative, care, and compassion in clinical practice.

Marilyn Kelly Memorial Award

Awarded to a student enrolled in their first year of the BScN degree program This award is open to eligible students who display certain key characteristics that made Marilyn Kelly such an outstanding faculty member at Conestoga, both to her peers and her students. Specifically, students are eligible for nomination for this award if they have demonstrated professionalism, respect and diligence in their studies. BScN faculty must submit a letter supporting each nomination based on these criteria by the end of February each year.

Homewood Foundation Scholarship in Psychiatric Nursing $1000 Awarded to a  student after the 2nd or 3rd year who exhibits an interest in psychiatric nursing and is or will be completing a mental health placement. First preference is given to the son or daughter of an employee within the Homewood Corporation.

St. Mary’s General Hospital Educational Award for Continuing Education $250 Awarded to a graduating student who is able to apply theory to clinical practice in a competent manner, demonstrates interest in postgraduate studies and obtains a high level of achievement in theory (B+ or greater).

RNAO Waterloo Chapter Leadership Award $200 plus One year free membership to RNAO Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership or professional initiative on behalf of patient care and / or the nursing profession.

Jean O'Leavy Award for Excellence in Nursing $200  Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrated high ability to apply theory to clinical practice,consistent personal and professional growth, and high academic achievement (A range).

Dr. Stanley F. Leavine Memorial Award $100 Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrated high ability to apply theory to clinical practice, consistent personal and professional growth, and high academic achievement (A range).

Judy Cooper Memorial Award $200 & Plaque Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrated support to classmates and a caring attitude to patients, satisfactory performance in the completion of clinical/ community experiences, and high academic achievement (B+ or greater).

Mary-Joe Halliwell General Proficiency Award $500 Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrated high level of theoretical academic achievement (A range), ability to apply theory to clinical practice, and personal and professional growth. R.N.A.O. Wellington Chapter Award $500 Awarded to a graduating student who demonstrates professional development through participation in professional Nursing Student Association Activities. The student is a student member of R.N.A.O. and participates in community based activities.

Guelph General Hospital Auxilliary Award $300                    Awarded to a full time, graduating student who is a resident of Waterloo-Wellington region and achieves the highest academic standing.

Sister Beatrice Schnarr Scholarship Fund $250 & Certificate Awarded to a full time, graduating student with the highest academic standing at the Conestoga Site.

Clarence L. Starr Prize $150 Awarded to a student who has completed Nursing I and attains the highest sessional average.

McCusker Nursing Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to a student who has completed at least Level 1 and who has demonstrated academic excellence.

Clara I. Elman Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to the patient / nurse relationship.

Medical-Surgical Excellence in Clinical Nursing Award $250 Awarded to a student completing level  II – who  demonstrates academic excellence in medical-surgical nursing.

Lillian And Manuel Zack Scholarship $1,800 Awarded to a student who has Completed Level I & 70 – 80 units in Nursing Program & is committed to Gerontological Nursing [Nominate a student for the Lillian And Manuel Zack Scholarship]
Clara I. Elman Travel Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to students registered in Level III & who will be completing a Level IV Clinical Course in a Canadian outpost placement. (Application details will be posted on AvenuetoLearn Communication Hub in late January. Completed application package is due on Feb 25, 2017 to the BScN office).
Grace Senra-Fontes Memorial Prize $250 Awarded to a student in Level III or IV who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and leadership. Preference given to Level IV students. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March)
Janet McKnight Award $600 Awarded to a student entering level IV who has demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in clinical and educational aspects of gerontology or PBL or SDL in nursing education.

McMaster Nursing Alumni Memorial Prize $300 Awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership while participating  in undergraduate activities. (Students will be asked to submit an application package in early March)
Pioneer Group Inc. Prizes In Nursing $250 Awarded to graduating students who achieved notable standings & demonstrated practical aptitude for the elderly (2 awards)

Lynne Beaumont Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to a student entering their final year of study who demonstrates notable academic achievement, qualities of leadership and cross-cultural competence and will be completing a level IV clinical course in an international or outpost placement. Donald Lavigne Memorial Scholarship $800 Awarded to students in their first year of study who have demonstrated academic excellence in a Post RN or Post RPN program.

Elizabeth Petra Cooke Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to a student in a Post RN or Post RPN program who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the nursing profession or to mentoring nurses as they further their education.

Corelene Helen Tostevin Scholarship $250 Five awards to be granted to students who are registered in a Post-RN program and who have demonstrated notable academic achievement.
